Thats OKAY! You are definitely not alone. The PNBR is a super fun event and we want to make you feel confident about participating.
Here is some information YOU CAN USE:
1. The single best way to ensure that you have a safe/enjoyable time is to ride with friends.You'll have people around to support you if you need to speak out about agressive photography; help you when you need to make a pit stop, fix a flat, etc. Plus, it's always more fun to have someone to share in your excitement.
2. Lead members of our street team will have their bicycles marked with flags so you can identify them along the route and engage them for assistance. The street team sweep will ride caboose and try their best to make sure everybody stays together, or that if you have to drop out of the ride, that you drop out safely. And ther are always riders just like you willing to lend a hand.
3. There will be people marked with blue question marks at the ride who will be armed with all of the necessary information in case you have a question. They will be at the meeting spot and scattered throughout the ride.
There are also a few things you can do for yourself:
- It's only bare as you dare. Bring clothes and carry them with you. Feel free to put them on/take them off as you like (hint: duct tape them to your frame for easy access).
- Pack a small bag with a flat kit, band-aids, and your cell phone, just in case you need it.
- Ride with a friend! Use the facebook page to meet other riders. Even if you don't link up with them specifically, you'll be more likely to recognize each other and help each other out in a pinch.
- If you don't want someone to film or take pictures of you enjoying yourself, print out the "This photo was taken without permission" sign and attach it to your bike and/or body.
- Get involved! Spend an hour hanging up signs in your neighborhood, help out on the day of the ride with body painting or making sure riders know the route, rules, and get answers to their questions. This can be incredibly empowering and is another great way to meet people pre-ride. See the volunteer link on the home page.
